Back-Up (Back-Up, #1) written by A.M. Madden (392 pgs) – finished reading 10/25/15 – 4 stars - Contemporary Romance (Rockstar)

This was a pleasant surprise! It started off a little rocky, but then the writing kept getting better and better. A rockstar and his back-up singer try to keep their romantic relationship on the down-low as they finally commit to each other. Full of sexual tension and heated looks, these two main characters are so attracted to each other. It’s not just the sex, but also deep down emotionally that they connect. With a supporting cast that’s stellar and some bomb-shell secrets revealed, the story ends with a cliffhanger. Just how they both will get out of this mess remains to be seen. So looking forward to the next book of the series!!!

Storms Over Secrets (Over, #3) written by J.A. DeRouen (306 pgs) – finished reading 10/16/15 – 5 stars - Contemporary Romance

Oh this was fantastic! Such great main characters with such emotional intrigue. This is one book not to be missed! The author goes all out with this story and captivated me from page one. Humor, heartbreak, and triumph are depicted within these enthralling pages.

Cain Bennett is one cocky male. He’s funny and charming. And, Celia Lemaire just can’t help but be attracted to him. Celia, though, can’t even begin to get involved with Cain. She has a secret, one that is pretty much hidden until about three-quarters of the book, one that I was shocked to learn. I was definitely thinking another way through most of the book. I thought one thing, but was totally rocked when something else came to light. The author does a great job of hiding certain details of Celia’s past. She’s so torn about what to do. Cain could possibly be a future for her, but she pushes him away time and time again because of the guilt that is her past. When the truth is finally revealed, the reader finds out just what an awesome guy Cain is when he makes it his mission to help an innocent but deeply mentally disturbing individual. Cain was such a beautiful man both inside and out! And, he proves this to Celia by his unselfish and caring heart.

This was such a beautiful story!! I really felt for the girl who was just trying to do the right thing by remaining loyal while giving up her heart’s desire. Everything comes full circle when all the truths and feelings are finally revealed. Man, tears were shed as I couldn’t help but feel Celia’s pain. She, too, was a remarkable character. She’s funny and easy going. She’s just one that just makes you smile. The supporting characters were also amazing. All playing their parts perfectly. The friends and the family members all showing their support and love for their loved one. This is book three of a series, but I had no problem reading it as a standalone. The stories are all linked by friendships. Narrated by both Celia and Cain alternating between both the past and the present gives the reader incite into what they’re both thinking as their romance takes shape. Such a great way to tell their story to readers. Book 4 is next when it promises to tell Marlo’s story. So, looking forward to it!!

“I’ve lived a life overrun with gravity and momentum. My choices run parallel with the current of circumstance. Not anymore. I’m through with gravity. I loathe momentum. I crave the turbulence of emotions. I want the push, the pull, the ache, the fall. I want the storms.” ~ Celia (Chap. 36)

Borden 2 (Borden, #2) written by R.J. Lewis (295 pgs) – finished reading 10/19/15 – 5 stars - Contemporary Romance (Mafia)

This book was more explosive than the first one, and I loved it! I just could not put it down! So much action and romance with twists and turns that me holding my breath! I just have to read more from this author! She just had me thrilled the entire time! Great characters! Intriguing story! And, a hardcore romance! What more could I possibly want???

With Borden now knowing who is after him, he takes every precaution to protect Emma. But, of course, she’s tough and doesn’t really want his protection. Their life together is taking on more of a permanent relationship. Emma already knows that she loves Marcus, but what is he feeling?? As she spends more time with him, she sees in his eyes just how much she means to him. Will it last though? Is she just another woman to him? Marcus, however, knows that Emma is under his skin. He can’t breath without her. And, that’s why he has to save her from the enemy that threatens both his and her lives. That climax was like, “holy s**t”, Borden is one desilient male! If I didn’t like him all that much in book one, I surely did now in this book. He’s as tough as tough can be, and you have to love him for it. This book was really one that I was surprised about. Not much hype regarding it, but it was amazing! Definitely looking forward to reading much more by this author!

“Love isn’t simple. It’s a mind-f**k, filled with irrational reason, driven purely by some possessive animalistic need that sits in the cover of all of us. This need to be loved and wanted and...accepted. This desperate need to be entwined with another soul, until you can’t tell yourself apart from them.” ~ Emma (Epilogue)

That is one HOT cover!!!

Borden (Borden, #1) written by R.J. Lewis (281 pgs) – finished reading 10/17/15 – 4 stars - Contemporary Romance (Mafia)

This one was so thrilling! Had to hold my breath quite a few times with Borden. He was intense and sarcastic. I wasn’t always sure that I liked him. But, he came from a hard life. Kicked out of his parent’s house at the age of fifteen and left to survive on his own, his life is not the most upstanding. He meets Kate at a party and totally is taken with her. He wants to be a better man, so he disappears for four years. Now, he’s wealthy and a “boss”. And, coming back to town puts Kate’s life in jeopardy. He now realizes that he can’t be close to another woman ever. But, when he meets Emma, she’s a hardass and not willing to give Borden the time of day. She knows he’s dangerous, but he gets under her skin. Will Borden’s past have devastating ramifications for both himself and Emma?

Oh, man, this had exciting written all over it. The author pulls you into the story as she first introduces Borden. He’s a survivor and always gets what he wants. Both Kate and Emma were strong independent women. They both loved Borden for the man he truly was. Can’t say that I was ever bored with this one. The characters, the story, the romance all had me hooked from page one. It does end with somewhat of a cliffhanger – not a major one per se. But, one nonetheless. Now onto Part 2 to see how everything ends. What can possibly go down when the mystery of who is really after Borden is revealed????

Chasing Cassidy written by D. Kelly (346 pgs) – finished reading 10/19/15 – 4 stars - Contemporary Romance

Zachary Stafford is one hot and swoon-worthy male, and Cassidy Pope is a scared and wounded young woman. She’s branded unlovable by her abusive parent. Unfortunately, she believes the monster. So, on her wedding day she runs. But, what she doesn’t count on happening is Zack promising to show her just how lovable she is. This was one moving and passionate love story! I loved it, and I wouldn’t hesitate to read another D. Kelly book. She has a way with her writing that just makes the reader embrace her characters and believe in their story. This was one emotional journey between Zack and Cassidy that was tender and sweet. I got lost in their beautiful story...

Darkroom (Darkroom, Saga, #1) written by Poppet (290 pgs) – finished reading 10/13/15 – 4 stars - Contemporary Romance (with Dark Elements)

This was definitely not a love story. It was dark and gritty and totally messed up. Victor, what a nutcase! Quoting biblical passages and thinking he is so brilliantly out-of-reach. Nobody’s untouchable! He’s a mastermind of controlling people. But, he’s also being manipulated too by an even more disturbing individual. Sure he’s gorgeous and smart and a stallion in the bedroom, but he’s just so twisted. And, poor poor Shauna! She’s so broken, and no believes her. Her family and friends all think she’s making everything up about her kidnapping and current stalking. Wow! I couldn’t read this fast enough! It just blew my mind! Written in alternating POV’s that kept changing constantly. It was never hard to figure out who the narrator at the time was, though. It just kept me on my toes thinking, wondering, guessing. So intriguing and thrilling it was! The author leaves the reader with alternate endings. I read both because I just couldn’t stop myself. I really don’t know which one I preferred. Both were engaging and still left so many questions unanswered. So looking forward to reading the next book in the series! I just have so many thoughts that need explanations...

Frenched (Frenched, #1) written by Melanie Harlow (336 pgs) – finished reading 6/28/15 – 4 stars - Contemporary Romance

Read this one in record speed! It kept my attention totally mostly because of the main character Mia! She was one dynamic woman! Sent on her honeymoon trip along to Paris because her fiance’ jilts her a week before her wedding, she embarks on the trip just to get away and finally see her dream city “Paris”! What she doesn’t count on happening, though, is meeting a Parisian bartender who suggests he be her tour guide to the romantic city of love.Is he flirting with her or just being her friend is the question? When their relationship takes a more seductive course, can it really be this special after only a few short days of spending time together?

This was such a fun and exciting little find! Their relationship might have plunged head on right in after only a small period of time, but it so worked for this book. It was cute and funny!  And, their intimate encounters were hot. Tres’ chaud! My goodness, and freakin’  loud!! Marcus was such a sweetheart – that is until Mia found out that he has very strong commitment issues. Will his inability to pledge his love to Mia forever damage their changes for a possible “happily ever after”? Or, will Marcus have a change of heart when he realizes that Mia means much more to him than he originally thought? The magical city of love showcases stunning sites to see, delicious places to eat, and marvelous wine to drink. I was so lost in the revelry of romantic ambiance that was illustrated within this book’s pages. It was romance at its finest!!

Good thing it was leftover night at my house for dinner because this one took over my life for the day...lol!!! Kelly Mooney just made me a huge fan with a confident gorgeous guy like Colt and a strong beautiful woman like Charlie. Couldn’t help but fall in love with their story!!!

That’s some gorgeous cowboy on the cover too!!!

Whispered Truths (Truths, #1) written by Anne Mercier (323 pgs) – finished reading 6/15/15 – 3.5 stars - Young Adult (Romance)

3.5 star rating – the age range for the characters in this book is high school, but the intimacy level is more of a New Adult read...

I think I was just a little old for this book, which is no fault of the author’s. That’s why I rated this book probably below its actual worth. The characters should have been college age because they were more mature. But, then I guess it would take away key elements of the story. Wow! I’ve really never been this torn as to how to rate a book. If your read it, you might understand what I’m talking about. It all depends on the person reading the book.

The two main characters have known each for like forever. But, neither wants to tell the other how they actually feel. When they finally decide to act on their feelings it’s cute and sweet and, oh so beautiful. There are some intimate times too, and they are sexy and innocent. You really can’t go wrong with this book. Like I said, it was just a little too young for me. I will, though, be reading the next book in the series when it’s released. Just have to see what it’s all about!!

Kane’s Hell written by Elizabeth Finn (320 pgs) – finished reading 5/3/15 – 5 stars - Contemporary Romance (with Dark Elements)

Wow! That was one raw and powerful novel! How can I put what I just read into words? There’s just so much emotional chaos swirling around in my head at the moment. Two totally broken people who connect eleven years later after a horrifying ordeal that occurred in the past has scarred them both explicitly. My heart went out to both of them! If you take a chance on their story, you will be riding on one hell of an emotional roller coaster. Ms. Finn really does go out of her way for perfection on this one!! AMAZING!!!

Oh my, that is some magnificent cover!!!

True North (True, #1) written by Liora Blake (287 pgs) – finished reading 5/2/15 – 5 stars - Contemporary Romance (Rockstar)

So so great!! Not your typical down and dirty rocker book. Definitely had depth and passion that had my emotions on edge! Two main characters that meet on a talk show – one trying to reclaim her life and one just wanting to settle his life down with the perfect one. Both main characters were strong but damaged somewhere along the way. This was Ms. Blake’s debut, and it was outstanding!

WOW! Holy s**t! That was one mindf**k!

Totally blew me away! Brilliant writing that just definitely got me hooked from the very first page! And, I could absolutely feel the craziness coming as the end was clearly in sight. Abe: Four In Hand (Ties of Steel, #1) written by M.J. Fields (297 pgs) – finished reading 4/7/15 – 3.5 stars - Contemporary Romance

3.5 star rating

I really wanted to like this, but I just couldn’t take much more of Abe. He was too controlling, and it was either his way or no way. I did feel for him because of his mom’s illness, but he was just too much at times. Nikki was a sweetheart! She really was a genuinely nice person, and I would get angry when Abe treated her so harshly. The ending of the book just seemed to stop too. Actually, were was the ending? It was a quick read, and I’m looking forward to continuing on with the series even though I wasn’t all too happy with the hero.

Chasing the Wild Sparks (Wild Sparks, #1) written by Ren Alexander (205 pgs) – finished reading 3/22/15 – 4 stars - Contemporary Romance

I was immediately drawn into the love story of Becks and Finn from page one! Their romance was not without love and intimacy, but it’s the written legality of commitment that stalls their relationship. So, can’t wait to see what happens in the next installment of this series with this couple!!

So, loved the cover of this book!!!

Bait (Wake, #1) written by M. Mabie (387 pgs) – finished reading 4/6/15 – 3.5 stars - Contemporary Romance

3.5 star rating – the story moved a bit slow

There’s just so much back and forth within this triangle of lovers. It just made my head spin quite a bit. Casey, though, was my favorite. He was such a sweetheart! Blake was a mess. I hope she redeems herself in Book 2. And, Grant was just not my cup of tea. Too wishy washy for me. Looking forward to seeing how the story plays out in the end...

Redemption Lane (Crossroads, #1) written by Rachel Blaufeld (295 pgs) – finished reading 10/5/15 – 4.5 stars - Contemporary Romance

4.5 star rating

Two individuals inflicted with past mistakes. Mistakes that altered lives. Mistakes that ended up providing devastating results. And, how do you go on? One day at a time. Picking up the pieces as they lay scattered around within your world as a reminder to just breath to survive. This was one heartfelt drama. I definitely endured their pain. The author wrote some pretty emotional trauma that no two people should have to struggle with. The loss of a parent whether by abandonment or death is horrifying. And, it’s with those losses that both individuals feel broken. Wow! I must say I didn’t see Lane’s tragedy coming. It was hidden really well. Just like I always say, I love that unpredictable moment when everything is revealed so shockingly. Bess’s storyline is pretty apparent from the very beginning. But, it’s the hidden truths behind Lane’s secrets that could prove disastrous for this couple.

I can’t say that there is much laughter within the pages of this page. It’s more filled with drama and heartache. But, there is love and eventually honesty. There is sadness and abuse. There are second chances to make things right. And, there is hope for a better life. The author wrote a lot of the story pretty soulfully when it came to the characters and their eventual thoughts towards the end. I’m having a hard time, though, really putting my words down on paper because I just felt so much while reading this. It’s hard to know where to start as far as putting my thoughts together.  But, I will say that I felt triumph for both main characters. Their’s is a story worth reading. It speaks from the heart. It really made me stop and think of how far that they had come from the beginning to the end.

Lane is a pretty hard person to describe. He’s pretty much perfection in looks and the way he dresses. Fit and in shape. Wears all the designer clothes. But, it’s within his soul that the damage has festered. It eats at him with nightmares and secrets. He puts on a great front as he cleans up everyone else’s messes. He’s a great enabler.

Now Bess is totally different. Her life is pretty much an open book. She knows her past was destructive and abusive, and she does everything in her power to keep herself on the straight and narrow. She’s a hardworker and dresses the part. No designer clothes for her. She’s a waitress at a well-established hotel restaurant. She likes her job and has no desire to change where her life is at at the moment. And, when she meets Lane, all that goes out the door.

I loved their story and where it goes. I loved their relationship and how it grew. Two amazing characters that found each other and their will to survive. This is one of those stories that just made me feel. Couldn’t stop reading it. Now, onto the next installment in this series. Lane’s brother, Jake, has definitely more issues it seems. Should it should be interesting to see where Ms. Blaufeld takes his story.

All I Need is You (Loving You, #2) written by Wendy S. Marcus (252 pgs) – finished reading 10/6/15 – 5 stars - Contemporary Romance

Couldn’t put this one down from start to finish! From page one Ms. Marcus kept me intrigued in this beautiful romance that was just fitting for two strong and independent characters. My favorite, though, just had to be Rory McRoy. He was just such a sweetheart of a guy! There’s nothing that he wouldn’t do to protect and support his woman. And, Neve James has all that and more when it comes to her relationship with Rory. Yes, there were some pretty heavy misunderstandings between the two, but as they work them all out, just what exactly is their connection? What does a relationship with Rory really mean to Neve? And, is she in it for the long haul? In other words, can she trust him?

This starts off as a pen pal exchange of letters as Rory is overseas on military assignment. Their friendship develops into something more as the two correspond and then finally meet. But, when Rory is caught in what seems to be a lie while Neve jumps to the wrong conclusions, their relationship suffers until Rory helps Neve see the good in him and learns to trust him again. Ahhh, the romance, which is sweet and sensual. The drama, which is conflicting and emotional. The suspense, which brings truth and understanding when everything is now out in the open. It’s a story that is tenderly touching when dealing with sad but yet truly genuine concerns. The dancer and the soldier – two people wanting to find that everlasting love that they can trust in. Who’s to say that they didn’t find it in each other? This one is worth taking a chance on!!! Ms. Marcus again writes romance at its finest...

So loving that cover!!!!

Bobby Does Dallas (Hill Country Heart, #3) written by Sable Hunter (210 pgs) – finished reading 10/4/15 – 4 stars - Contemporary Romance (Erotica)

No other hero is as swoon-worthy as Bobby Stewart! Ahhh...

What a beautiful romance between two amazing main characters!

At first I was not going to rank this as high as I did because it just seemed so silly at times. But, then when I read Cecile’s story, I just couldn’t help the tears that fell and the heartbreak that came for her. She’s hurting BAD! Real BAD! And, her husband’s the one at fault. The mean bastard that he is wears on her with all his criticisms and demeaning actions. So much so that she’s just so down in the dumps.  When Bobby comes to the rescue, though, he gives her hope and confidence. He makes her see her self-worth. He makes her strong again. Like I said, Bobby Stewart is all southern charm. He’s confident and larger than life. He makes everyone that he’s around feel good. With his smile and happy-go-lucky personality, you can’t help but love the guy. And, that’s exactly what Ceelee needs. Just to feel good!! Now, granted, Bobby’s life is not all perfection as the reader soon finds out, but he’s just the ray of sunshine to Ceelee’s stormy clouds.

I read this one straight through. And, couldn’t get enough of their story. There’s two other installments that are written before this one. Why I read this one first, I guess the title just reeled me in...lol!!! Oh, and the beautiful specimen on the cover was an attention-getter all in itself!! So couldn’t help but love this Texan gentlemen and his lovely lady!!!

Storm (Sex and Bullets, #1) written by Jo Raven (243 pgs) – finished reading 10/1/15 – 4 stars - Contemporary Romance (Romantic Suspense)

I love how Jo Raven’s stories pull you right in! No dilly dallying around! It’s thrill after thrill from the moment when the two main characters meet until the climatic end! There always seems like a lot going on in a Jo Raven book, and she never disappoints her readers.

This was insta-sex almost from the very beginning. Not that I’m not in for a steamy romp in the sheets, but it seemed a bit much at times. Yes, there was a story here – in fact, there were two; his and hers. But, I’m more of an angsty sexual tension sort of gal. Don’t get me wrong, their stories were great, and I never knew what was going to happen next – unpredictability is my joy – but hitting the sheets every other page got a little boring. The intimacy level, though, was off-the-charts HOT as  I needed to recuperate after each encounter...if you know what I mean. LOL!!! And, for some reason, Ms. Raven’s book just seem a little short. I always feel myself needing more of her entertaining characters and their lives.

Storm was a sweet and generous male even with packing the body of a God, which just made me swoon...ahhhh!!! While Raylin was smart and courageous. There was more surprise about her as the reader gets to know her within the book. She’s way more than just a scared young woman on the run. She’s a survivor. Together Storm and Ray figure out just how much trouble both of their lives are in. And, their stories pack a punch when the bitter details are revealed in the end. I was over the moon with Storm’s two friends, Hawk and Rook. Both were sarcastic alpha-males that had an edge to them that reeked of danger and survival. And, they were funny too with a somewhat dry sense of humor. Can’t wait to dive into their books! Should be one hell of a ride! I was a little surprised that we never got to meet Ray’s dad or brother since they were mentioned so much and held such an important piece to her story.

This was an exciting start to Ms. Raven’s new series with promises to boast both romance and suspense. Can’t ever go wrong when picking up a novel written by this author. With strong characters and an exciting story, one can only hold their breath as to what will happen next. You will not be disappointed!

Oh, and how about that cover? It just begs for you to read this book. Gorgeous!!!

Can’t say enough about how wonderful this book was! It had everything and then some to create a passionate romance! Plus two awesome main characters! This is like no other rockstar romance I have read before. Mystical and colorful! A pure imaginative creation! I will definitely be keeping an eye out for anything else that this author writes...

“Was it possible? He searched her eyes, and what he saw blew him away. There was no hiding from Cleo. She looked into him – deeply into him – and saw everything. He wasn’t hiding behind a guitar or shrouded in fame. It was just him. Real. Flawed. Terrified. And she loved him." ~ Julian (Chap. 20)

Sweet Sinful Nights (Sinful Nights, #1) written by Lauren Blakely (350 pgs) – finished reading 9/30/15 – 3 stars - Contemporary Romance (Romantic Suspense)

I’ve never read a romance book about the hero being a comedian before, so in that respect it was entertaining. But, I just felt that there was something missing, and it seemed a bit boring at times. There’s the lust along with the drama that I always look for in a contemporary romance. So, all-in-all not a bad start to the series. With an on-going criminal investigation that continues on into the next book of the series, I’ve decided to plug ahead and read this story that features the heroine’s brother, Ryan. One can only hope that the mystery really dives into some seedy stuff concerning the Paige-Prince family!
