A Dare With Consequences (Dare To Love Series) written by Wendy S. Marcus (91 pgs) – finished reading 4/29/30 – 5 stars - Contemporary Romance

I haven’t read any other of this series’ books, but it was so easy to get engaged in the story even without having invested in any of the other books. Ms. Marcus pulls you right into the story as she tells a tale of two people that are falling for each other in the most romantic way. Ren Monighan is a businessman. Smart. Good-looking. And, definitely confident. He has an air about him that the ladies just can’t ignore. When he meets Anya Solokov, she stirs something in him. She’s beautiful. With dark hair and alluring eyes, she’s a sight to behold. And, when he finally talks to her he knows without a doubt this woman could mean something to him. Their story evolves some twelve months later when Ren goes to New York City looking for Anya. What Ren finds throws him totally off his guard. And, it’s nothing for which he is prepared. What will happen to this couple when they really take a chance of getting to know each other?

This was a refreshing novella that kept my interest the whole time. This might be a short story, but there’s so much emotion and tenderness packed into those 91 pages. The banter between these two was fun and amusing. Some of the things they said had me chuckling quite often. Anya definitely could hold her own. She was not a woman to let any man push her around and make decisions for her. And, Ren, oh man! He was all male. But, he was responsible and caring. His feelings were definitely honest. He was a man who without a doubt had everyone’s best interest at heart. The two were just perfect together. And, the intimacy they shared was steamy and arousing. This is one impressive gem that shouldn’t be missed!

Crazy Stupid Love (Crazy Stupid, #1) written by Melissa Toppen (350 pgs) – finished reading 4/24/16 – 5 stars - Contemporary Romance (New Adult)

Loved Decklan and Kimber’s love story! Such an emotional ride. You have to really feel for both main characters. Their lives were not their own. Both plagued with decisions that could change everything. Decklan’s was more heartbreaking, while Kimber’s was more about acceptance. When they first meet Decklan is attracted to Kimber. She’s definitely different than her flashy friends. She has an innocence that captures Decklan’s attention. But, Deck can’t get involved. His life is just all over the place. He’s not good for her. And, throughout their relationship he tells her this over and over again. Kimber doesn’t care what he has to say. She wants him. She needs him. He’s it for her. As Decklan’s life spins out of control, Kimber is there for him in the most loyal and compassionate way even though Deck tries to turn her away so many times. His life is spiraling downward with his dependency for alcohol to numb away the pain. The pain that he seems to think he causes everyone that he loves.

Oh, man, you just have to feel this guy’s anguish. He’s so hard on himself. Thinking that an accident, and that’s exactly what it was, “an accident”, was all his fault. So many tears. So much heartache. So much guilt. It just ate him up inside. And, Kimber, her life is not as easy as it looks either. With two parents who just need to control her life and don’t think she’s old enough to be on her own, she decides to trek all the way across the country to Oregon for college to major in art. She’s responsible. Hard-working. And, confident in what she does. But, having Decklan in her life now is somewhat of a complication when it comes to her parents. They would never accept him. With an ex-boyfriend that just won’t leave her alone, texting and calling constantly, Deck becomes to mean more to her than she’s ever experienced before. But, what will happen when he pushes her away when she knows he needs her the most??? This was some tearfully poignant book! My heart hurt for both of them. What do you do when the love of your life is hurting? How do you get them to let you in? They were both such great characters as they tried to hide their hearts from pain. Both were so wounded from life’s hard-knocks. But, together I believed that they had half a chance to salvage their relationship and have a life that was meant to be with each other. What a moving love story!! It was passionate. Tender. And, loving. Intimate. Sweet. And, caring. I just wish that it was a little longer. I so loved this couple’s story, and I was sorry to see it end. Looking forward to catching up with them when Gavin’s story is released! Beautiful story!!!

Oh, and did I say that Deck rides a motorcycle??? swoon...

Magnificent Bastard written Lili Valente (252 pgs)- finished reading 4/25/16 – 4 stars - Contemporary Romance (Romantic Comedy)

The characters in this book were wonderful and the humor was laugh-out-loud funny. I totally enjoyed it! What a concept for an author to write about! I was intrigued where Ms. Valente was going to take this one, and was absolutely enthralled with it. It made me grin, and sigh, and fan myself quite a few times. I was just having fun reading it.

You have to love a man like Sebastian “Bash” Prince. No filter whatsoever. Definitely brings it all to the table without an embarrassing bone in his body. He’s sexy and fit and his humor is just so funny. He’s caring and whip smart and loves women. When he sets his sight on his virtual personal assistant, Penny Pickett, he’s hit hard with lust. This is the first time that they’ve met, and there’s no way that he would ever give his heart to anyone again. But, she’s his type. And, when Penny asks for a favor, how can he possibly say no to her. She’s his best friend. She’s beautiful. She just always makes him smile. These two people are so exciting together, and the banter in text messages and e-mails that they send back and forth are flirty and filled with sexy overtones. All the references to Mr. Whiskers and Incredible Bulk had me in stitches. This is one comical book! But, it also has a story to it that both characters need resolution from. Both have trust issues from relationships in the past that had ended badly. Claiming their heart. As they spend more time together, though, they realize that maybe they can take that second chance. Unfortunately, misunderstandings occur that blow that idea right out of the water. Will they be able to find themselves back in each other’s arms? And, oh that ending, only Bash and Penny can get themselves in more trouble than any character that I’ve read about in a long time. So, far-fetched it was, but it totally fit the story.

“Picture this: it’s a rainy spring day in the city. The streets are covered with a fine layer of mud and soggy garbage, the sun is a distant memory from another, brighter time when you were still stupid enough to believe in happy endings, and you’ve just been dumped so hard your heart looks like it’s gone three rounds with Mike Tyson.

You’re ugly crying in a corner with a box of wine and a chocolate bar the size of your forearm, wishing Prince Charming would come swoop you up on his white horse and carry you far away from all those nasty memories of Mr. Wrong, but I’m here to tell you, ladies-

You need to stop that s**t.

Stop it. Right now.

Why? Because Prince Charming is a crock of s**t. Like unicorns, mermen, and other fairy tale creatures, he doesn’t exist.

When you’re down and out and your heart has been ripped to shreds by an asshole with a d**kish-side a mile wide, you don’t need Prince Charming. You need a man who’s not afraid to get his hands dirty, a man who can teach Mr. Wrong a thing or two about what it feels like to be deceived, betrayed, and laid low by the one person in the world you thought you could trust. What you need is a Magnificent Bastard, your very own one-man vengeance machine.” ~ Bash (Prologue)

And, that’s how this book begins. You know you’re going to be in for a thrilling ride. Even though some of the story was a tad bit unbelievable, it was loads of fun to read. And, my my, when these two really get together intimately it’s so damn HOT and sizzling. My word! It was on fire!! And, like I said, you will laugh your ass off!!! Still smiling I am after finishing this yesterday. Going to have to keep a look out for anything else that this author writes. It was just that entertaining...

Caught Up In You (Caught Up, #1) written by Colee Firman (299 pgs) – finished reading 4/22/16 – 4.5 stars - Contemporary Romance

4.5 star rating

I so wanted to give this book 5 stars, but the heroine does something that I just had a hard time accepting. I understood where she was coming from, but I knew in the end it would be hurtful and come back to bite her in the ass.

This story is so filled with angst. Heartbreaking life shattering angst. It takes a young woman from a stable well-rounded home to devastating loss and unbelievable heartbreak. While the hero, Myles, suffered through a painful trauma himself, it’s more from his own youthful indiscretions that brings it on. As for Brantley’s, the heroine, hers is more out of her control as she struggled with the effect that it had on her young life.

I loved this pair’s banter! When they first meet, I couldn’t help but laugh. There was some pretty funny stuff said here. Brantley’s mouth has no filter. So the language is quite a bit dirty. But, it fit the story. And, she can definitely handle herself. While Myles’ exchange is more of a gruff and sexy manner. And, oh what a tattooed and attractive man he was. This is a book where I was hoping that the two main characters would get their s**it together because the chemistry between the two was totally there. It was just all the other hoopla that had them pulling back and running.

The writer pens an exceptionally emotional story filled with chances being taken and trust holding the key to their hearts. It was high-time to bury all the heartache between the two and give into their feelings for each other. In the end, their true compassion proves to be the key that they so desperately need to take that step to trusting each other explicitly.

So interested in reading the next book in the series! Always looking for new authors to rock my reading world, and Ms. Firman did it totally with this one...

Teach Me To Live (Teach Me, #1) written by Alannah Carbonneau (426 pgs) – finished reading 4/16/16 – 5 stars - New Adult

Such a beautiful love story! I would give this book 10 stars if I could...

“Have you ever encountered someone whose entity calls to you beyond any stretch of your imagination, beyond any explanation? Have you ever looked into someone’s eyes, and in them, saw a piece of yourself reflecting back? Have you ever touched another human being, and felt your soul stir from its hibernation? And you realize in that moment, that all the living you’ve been doing, was nothing more than walking the path you needed to take to cross paths with her? Have you ever met someone and known, that no matter what, you can’t fathom existing without her?? Not even for her own wellbeing? If there is one thing in this world I need before I take my final salutation, it’s her.” ~ Austin (Chap. 5)

This was one beautiful love story! Full of emotion and heartache, which only added to the dynamic of the story. Madison was always doing what everyone else wanted. She didn’t have friends, and her parents were always telling her what to do. Making her own decisions without consulting her. Trying to do what was really in their best interest instead of hers. Madison was a sad soul. And, in her deep brown eyes is where it all showed. The sorrow. The vacant stare. There was just no spark. No life. And, when she meets Austin, he can see it all. She’s an open book to him. And, when he professes to her “if you ever feel like living a little, give me a call” she can’t help but be intrigued. With his phone number scrawled on her arm, she decides to copy it into her diary for safe-keeping. A few days later, Madison takes Austin up on his offer, and calls him. And, what starts out as just a brief encounter, develops into something so much more. But, there is a huge secret that Austin is keeping from Madison. And, it comes with pain and heartbreak.

I loved Madison and Austin’s story! Austin was such a brave guy. He was so amazing in his own-right. Wise beyond his years. Stunning blue eyes and longish black hair graced his six-foot two immaculately tattooed body. He was just an eyeful to look at. And, damn, he rode a motorcycle too. He was a God!! Madison is brave too as she lets Austin show her what living is like. How to have fun and just enjoy life. How to live for yourself. He’s patient and caring with her as she’s torn about telling her parents she’s decided to make her own decisions concerning where life takes her whether they’re mistakes or not. Boy, this was one emotional roller coaster! I was totally floored when I found out what Austin’s secret was! I can’t go into it much more than that without giving away spoilers, but be prepared for one incredible story that will definitely have you thinking about it long after you’ve read the final page. Another great book that I’ve read this year! Ms. Carbonneau really impressed me with her writing and her ability to suck the reader fully into an emotionally heartfelt story. One not to be missed!

Beautiful Distraction written by J.C. Reed (215 pgs) – finished reading 4/15/16 – 4.5 stars - Contemporary Romance (Rockstar/Cowboy)

4.5 star rating

My first read by J.C. Reed, and I couldn’t put it down! I had no idea where the author was going with this book, but in the end I was pleasantly surprised. Kellan Boyd is one who always gets what he wants, but when he suggests that he and city-girl Ava Cross go get a drink together, she throws it right back in his face with a big fat “no”! How’s about them apples rich boy with his big bright red Lamborghini?? To put it mildly, Kellan is not too happy at all when he’s turned down. Months later the two are brought together with a bit of help from Kellan’s planning and a little bit of fate. As the two get to know each other and Ava lets down her guard somewhat, they both realize that they’re falling for each other. But, Kellan has a secret that could possibly ruin everything. Will they be together in the end??

I loved this couple! Kellan with his arrogant and brooding ways. But, he was also tender and caring too. Got to love a man with dark hair and green eyes!! And, of course, he was muscular and good-looking. A man who works on a farm with horses and cares for animals all day is swoon-worthy and oh so sexy. Ava was a journalist. So unhappy in her job, though. She’s beautiful and kind. When she encounters Kellan again, his sarcasm and conceited personality gets under her skin. The man is so infuriating!! He pisses her off to no end. But, he’s so beautiful! And, HOT!! She’s never met a man like him before. And, when she witnesses a personal moment of his, she’s intrigued and oh so turned on. He’s just all male! Wow! I was also fanning myself. What an erotic moment!!

The author writes a fun and appealing book!! The banter between the two was so comical that I found myself smiling numerous times. Both characters could give it as well as take it. They had the perfect chemistry together. And, I was so sorry when I had to turn the last page. Oh, I just wish this one was longer!! Not a book to be missed! I’m going to have to check out more of Ms. Reed’s work now. Looking forward to reading another book written by this awesome author!!

***QUOTE CONTAINS SPOILERS***

“We couldn’t be more different: Kellan Boyd, a famous singer, and me, a normal girl from NYC. But love happens. One crash. One beautiful distraction. A cowboy meets a city girl. That’s how the ball started rolling. That’s how it all began. How the biggest sacrifice ended in the greatest reward. I can’t wait to become Ava Boyd. Life out here might seem a bit boring, but there’s nothing boring about my future husband.” ~ Ava (Epilogue)

Hush (Black Lotus, #3) written by E.K. Blair (276 pgs) – finished reading 4/13/16 – 2.5 stars - Contemporary Romance (Dark Erotica)

2.5 star rating

My rating for this book is way below the other two books of the trilogy. Why you ask? Two words – THE ENDING!! I was just so disappointed with it. That’s it? That’s how the author is leaving it?? That’s nothing like how I pictured this series concluding.  And, to be honest it wasn’t just the “caterpiller” that swayed me, it was the ending as a whole. It just wasn’t what I saw happening at all. It more than let down this reader who was so invested in the series. About three-quarters through I could feel the suspense building. I was ready for the big explosion, but what I got was a dud! Now don’t get me wrong, there are a few big reveals in this installment. But, I was still waiting for that huge climax. I think that the author, being such an engaging writer, should have offered an alternate ending so the reader could pick what was more appropriate for Elizabeth and Declan’s big finale. I think that readers would have been totally okay with that scenario. All-in-all, I would rank the series a 3.5 since I was so disappointed with Hush while Bang and Echo were so amazing. I will still be looking out for Ms. Blair’s next release. I would like to see her write a stand-alone, though. And, see how she could pack a punch in just 300-400 pages. I’m sure that it would be no less short of impressive.

Echo (Black Lotus, #2) written by E.K. Blair (335 pgs) – finished reading 4/11/16 – 5 stars - Contemporary Romance (Dark Erotica)

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS PRESENT WITHIN REVIEW***

Again, this was another mind-blowing read from E.K. Blair. The thrilling ride was just all over the place with chills. The darkness, the raw grit – it’s all there. Some reveals were heart-stopping. Didn’t see that coming! Elizabeth is now on her own. She’s lost. So she goes to Scotland to I guess connect with Declan. What she finds, though, will rejuvenate her life. Give it hope. This installment is also graphic in nature, but it was vital to the story. The book also ends in a cliffhanger. I will be totally hanging on until I read Book 3 – Hush. Thankfully, I waited until Hush was released before starting this amazing trilogy!

Ms. Blair’s words are nothing short of excellent! She never deviates from Elizabeth’s twisted need for acceptance. She lived through some pretty horrific nightmares that would break anyone. And, she teeters on relinquishing her mind to her demons. But, she’s strong. Cunning. The need for her to survive is powerful. And, Declan’s controlling and condescending ways are just as raw as ever. He shows her no mercy. In fact, I was so shocked by something so hurtful and violent he did that I just saw a huge crack in his armor. He actually lost it, and I thought that was huge. I never thought he would break and lost control. That was a tearful moment for me.

I really enjoyed this book! It kept me on the edge of my seat reading every word in just one day. Once I started reading it, I had to know how it ended! And, that cliffhanger will have you jumping right into the next book. Can’t wait to see how the series ends! I’m hoping that it will be one explosive conclusion...

Bang (Black Lotus, #1) written by E.K. Blair (418 pgs) – finished reading 4/10/16 – 5 stars - Contemporary Romance (Dark Erotica)

I totally loved this book! It was twisted. It was dark. It had me cringing in disgust and sadness. I loved the whole revenge plot. Involving another male into the mix was genius. It captured my attention. It held my interest, and I was thrilled. There’s so many things that go on in this book that I have to watch for spoilers while writing this review. The four main characters are top-notch. They had me riveted from one scene to the next. There are some pretty graphic incidents that take place, which will make the reader speechless with horror. So beware! It also contains some mild BDSM, which just adheres to the book’s darkness.

Nina/Elizabeth is just one screwed up chick. Her quest for revenge against her husband consumes her. And, with help from her foster brother, Pike, they will make people pay for the horror of her childhood. When she meets Declan McKinnon, she knows he’s the right one to help with their plan. But, her usual turned off feelings somehow weave their way into her heart. And, the moment that she realizes she can’t go through with her original plan, everything goes to hell. What started out as a simple scheme, is now a botched nightmare.

This was one wild ride riddled with ups and downs and twists and turns. And, on top of the fact that the writing was unpredictable, which I love, it was brilliant. Calculating, thrilling, dangerous, masterful are just a few words I would use to describe this excellent book. Of course, this book ends in a cliffhanger, which I knew going into reading it. That was why I held off jumping into this series until all three books were released. I just didn’t want to get invested in the series and then have to wait two years for all the books to be out. I’m so glad that I’m now able to read this series. The first book was amazing! Onto Book 2 – Echo!!

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS PRESENT WITHIN REVIEW***

I knew this was going to be one grueling read. The books in this series leading up to this one are filled with intensity and compassion. So, I was set to be on the edge of my seat with Nick and Chris’ story. And, this amazing author did not disappoint! Nick loses the love of his life in a horrific manner. He passes through each day with sorrow and booze. He’s gone to a really dark and dismal place, and no one can reach him, except for maybe Chris. He hates her, at least he talks like he does. He can no way be with or give his heart to another woman. He was meant to be with his Anna. And, the guilt that he suffers from as her life was devastatingly taken, eats him up inside while destroying his soul. He has no heart left to give anyone else. It shattered when Anna passed, leaving him broken and unable to care if he lived or died. And, here’s Chris. Beautiful red-headed Chris who’s so vibrant and good. Her life has had its ups and downs, though. Kidnapped by a madman. Held at gunpoint not knowing if she would live or die. Having two parents that did not support their children. If it wasn’t for the love and protection of her brother, Jase, and for the good friends she had, who knows what her life would be like. All she wants to do is help Nick, but he won’t let her in. He’s rude and nasty. Some of the things that he says to her are downright vicious. But, Chris is tough. She can handle it. What she can’t handle, however, is all the back and forth that goes on between them. So, when a life-altering situation finds Chris needing love and support, Nick finally takes responsibility for once and makes her his number one obligation. He helps Chris dig herself out of the depths of darkness and live again. Do these two broken individuals have a chance at being a couple in the end? Or has too much damage been done to repair their broken hearts??

I knew this was going to be a tough one to read because of all the hinting the author did in the previous books of the series. This was one intense read! It had me a blubbering mess at times. Some of the things said were just so cruel and spiteful. It did make for the story, but it was hard to read. I was so rooting for this heartbroken couple nonetheless. They deserved to find their “happily ever after”. And, what the author puts them through to finally find get that is nothing short of agony and sadness. They’ll get there, though. It’s just by one step at a time that they finally see what is standing right in front of them. HOME! A life worth living. A love everlasting. And, a kind of peace like no other. Nick has been waiting his whole life for Chris, he just didn’t know it. What a gripping story that will have you holding your breath until finally getting to the bitter end. There really was no suspenseful mystery in this book, however. But, I do think that there was a  romantic mystery present that had the reader guessing whether or not Nick and Chris would finally be together in the end. And, surprisingly so, Anna is with them in a roundabout way to find that. I loved this book!! Loved it! This is one series I would definitely read again!! Ms. Grayson did a bang-up job of completing this series with heart and soul. I will truly miss these amazing characters along with their friends and families. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Grayson has next up her sleeve!! She is one author that is at the top of my TBR list!!

“I love you. I just wanted you to know. I love you, Nick. I have for a long time. And I know if you had let me in your heart I could have made you happy. I know you think you don’t have any love left to give. But what you don’t get is, love is endless. There’re no measurements or an end to love. The heart can hold any amount. It can be scary and frightening and it can be hard, but it can also be beautiful. The beauty comes after all the scary and hard stuff. You just have to work through it and earn it. I may not be what you want, but I could have given that to you. We could have given it to each other. I hope one day you can find your happiness, even if that isn’t with me.” ~ Chris (Chap. 20)

And, of course, another amazing cover! Just sucks you right into reading this book!!!

Intent written by A.D. Justice (218 pgs) – finished reading 4/7/16 – 3.5 stars - Contemporary Romance

3.5 star rating

I know I’m probably in the minority with this one, but I struggled with the ending. It was too predictable, and I’m the type of reader that needs surprise. I enjoyed the characters, especially the little girl, River. She was such a cutie pie and oh so funny. Ace Sharp, the male lead, was one amazing man! Good-looking, dedicated dad, passionate lover, and very protective when it came to the ones he loved. It was with the female main character, Layne, that I had some problems with. Of course, she’s beautiful and everyone loves her. She’s a lawyer and is from New York, but it’s the fact that she’s been in a seven-year relationship that seems to be going nowhere is what she’s dealing with. She wants some form of commitment from her boyfriend, and when Layne walks in on a hearbreaking situation, she knows that’s it! It’s over! So she takes her boss up on her offer to go to her home in Georgia to get away from everything. And, that’s when she first meets Ace. It’s not without harsh words and sarcasm that this pair first encounter each other.

I don’t know, Layne just seemed too perfect to me. I struggled with her going into such a committed affair when she just got out of such a long relationship that broke her so devastatingly. Maybe it’s me, but I just thought she needed more time to heal. While for the most part, I liked Ace, some of the things he said when their relationship passes the friend-zone, just seemed too cheesy and over-the-top. I found myself rolling my eyes more than a few times. I did enjoy the mystery and the suspense depicted in the story, however. There was also one reveal that I did not see coming. So I was pleasantly pleased with that. And, the fact that the author touched on mental disorder, did add some extra intrigue to the story. All-in-all, this wasn’t a bad book. It just didn’t “wow” me. Still looking forward to reading more from this author...

The cover model for this book is extremely HOT!!!

Stripped written by Allie Juliette Mousseau (250 pgs) – finished reading 4/4/16 – 5 stars - Contemporary Romance

I was looking to find something that was fun and exciting after the highly intense novel that I finished a few days ago, and this book was perfect! As two young adults fight to choose in what direction their lives should go and not have their parents call all the shots, Emelie and Stone were perfectly matched. They meet at a strip club where Stone is obviously one of the hottest acts there. Emelie is entranced with the hot male as he performs for an exciting crowd, and when he singles her out and holds her in his arms an embarrassing moment occurs that is just so wild. It’s hours later and she still can’t stop thinking about the charismatic male. Stone feels the same way, and it’s only by a chance meeting that they encounter each other yet again. And, when given a proposition by Stone, how can Emelie possibly say “yes”? But, how can she say “no” either?

This was definitely one humorous novel. With Stone’s priceless  Aussie take on things and with his oh so dirty mouth, he has Emelie laughlng and smiling throughout the novel. He’s such a great main character. He’s kind and caring. Sweet and passionate and not too hard on the eyes either. With his dark hair and blue eyes, Emelie just melts everytime she sees him. And, Emelie is one brave young woman. She’s beautiful and generous. Dedicated and a hard-worker. But, after her dream of becoming a ballerina is squashed because of a debilitating injury, she’s disappointed and lost after having to give up her life’s dream. But, through Stone she emerges into something more promising. A chance to live again. With Stone she once again finds herself.

The author writes a wonderful story of true love and life’s second chances. I loved the laugh-out-loud moments with these two and their sexy times were passionate but yet fun. Ms. Mousseau doesn’t write without a dull moment. From Emelie’s “kitten” and Stone’s “behemoth”, I found myself laughing my ass off. This was just what I needed to get me off the dark and dismal book train. Got to read me some more of this author’s work. Such a highly entertaining and amusing read!!!

And, that cover is oh so SEXY!!!!
