Magnificent Bastard written Lili Valente (252 pgs)- finished reading 4/25/16 – 4 stars - Contemporary Romance (Romantic Comedy)

The characters in this book were wonderful and the humor was laugh-out-loud funny. I totally enjoyed it! What a concept for an author to write about! I was intrigued where Ms. Valente was going to take this one, and was absolutely enthralled with it. It made me grin, and sigh, and fan myself quite a few times. I was just having fun reading it.

You have to love a man like Sebastian “Bash” Prince. No filter whatsoever. Definitely brings it all to the table without an embarrassing bone in his body. He’s sexy and fit and his humor is just so funny. He’s caring and whip smart and loves women. When he sets his sight on his virtual personal assistant, Penny Pickett, he’s hit hard with lust. This is the first time that they’ve met, and there’s no way that he would ever give his heart to anyone again. But, she’s his type. And, when Penny asks for a favor, how can he possibly say no to her. She’s his best friend. She’s beautiful. She just always makes him smile. These two people are so exciting together, and the banter in text messages and e-mails that they send back and forth are flirty and filled with sexy overtones. All the references to Mr. Whiskers and Incredible Bulk had me in stitches. This is one comical book! But, it also has a story to it that both characters need resolution from. Both have trust issues from relationships in the past that had ended badly. Claiming their heart. As they spend more time together, though, they realize that maybe they can take that second chance. Unfortunately, misunderstandings occur that blow that idea right out of the water. Will they be able to find themselves back in each other’s arms? And, oh that ending, only Bash and Penny can get themselves in more trouble than any character that I’ve read about in a long time. So, far-fetched it was, but it totally fit the story.

“Picture this: it’s a rainy spring day in the city. The streets are covered with a fine layer of mud and soggy garbage, the sun is a distant memory from another, brighter time when you were still stupid enough to believe in happy endings, and you’ve just been dumped so hard your heart looks like it’s gone three rounds with Mike Tyson.

You’re ugly crying in a corner with a box of wine and a chocolate bar the size of your forearm, wishing Prince Charming would come swoop you up on his white horse and carry you far away from all those nasty memories of Mr. Wrong, but I’m here to tell you, ladies-

You need to stop that s**t.

Stop it. Right now.

Why? Because Prince Charming is a crock of s**t. Like unicorns, mermen, and other fairy tale creatures, he doesn’t exist.

When you’re down and out and your heart has been ripped to shreds by an asshole with a d**kish-side a mile wide, you don’t need Prince Charming. You need a man who’s not afraid to get his hands dirty, a man who can teach Mr. Wrong a thing or two about what it feels like to be deceived, betrayed, and laid low by the one person in the world you thought you could trust. What you need is a Magnificent Bastard, your very own one-man vengeance machine.” ~ Bash (Prologue)

And, that’s how this book begins. You know you’re going to be in for a thrilling ride. Even though some of the story was a tad bit unbelievable, it was loads of fun to read. And, my my, when these two really get together intimately it’s so damn HOT and sizzling. My word! It was on fire!! And, like I said, you will laugh your ass off!!! Still smiling I am after finishing this yesterday. Going to have to keep a look out for anything else that this author writes. It was just that entertaining...
